Building Trust and Producing Results Across All Skin Types

Jessica Doto, owner and founder of Galvanic, is a board certified Adult Nurse Practitioner and has been in the medical realm since 1988. Her vision for her practice is to continue to create a space of belonging and comfortability to understand the unique concerns faced by her clients. She centers Galvanic to provide not only amazing skincare, but also medical aesthetics, nutrition, yoga, and meditation. Aerolase has allowed Doto to expand her offerings, as well as combine treatments, to better meet the needs of her diverse client base.

“It was really important to our practice that we could offer a service that was compatible with all skin types, without the fear of causing further issues to that client.”
Our practice now serves all fitzpatrick skin types
“The biggest factor was that I wanted a laser that worked on all Fitzpatrick skin types and would not potentially give someone pigmentation problems. We have a large international community here. Students come here from all over the world to study at our Ivy League school. I serve women from Nigeria, India, South Africa, and Ireland. You name it. Our patients come from all over. We didn’t want to worry about hurting somebody or causing them any additional skin problems,” Doto explains.
“I also wanted a laser that was not going to be painful for my clients. I’ve worked with other lasers in the past and they were very painful. We didn’t want something that we were going to have to waste time pre-numbing. There are potential issues with pre- numbing that we wanted to steer away from and avoid completely, including lidocaine toxicity and bradycardia. Even though we use pre-numbing in our practice for certain services, large amounts can present these issues. We wanted to use a laser that you didn’t have to pre-numb with at all,” Doto explains further.
She goes on to say, “I also wanted a platform where I didn’t have to purchase three or four different devices. Some devices are only suitable for three different functions. While you can do those three functions really well with that one device, what if I wanted to do five things with that device? Hypothetically, I would then have to buy a second device. That gets expensive. I wanted something that was multifunctional to be more cost-effective to my practice”. “I didn’t want to limit our practice. I wanted to be able to provide medical applications, as well as aesthetic skin treatments. The 30- plus FDA-approved applications that the Neo Elite has, checked off all our boxes for us,” Doto states.
We can make time for even our busiest clients
“It can be hard when you start with an empty book. I saw an opening in the market for laser hair removal and thought it was a good time to roll the dice in this particular area. Opening with laser hair removal, as a service, created a huge influx of patients for us and still does. We get probably two to three online inquiries a day for patients wanting laser hair removal. It is a great service to get patients in the door. They come in for that and they see everything else that we can do for them. It serves as a great introduction for so many other services”, Doto says.
“Our biggest package right now is underarms and Brazilian. For laser hair removal packages, that is the package our clients want the most. We have a lot of patients that have symptoms of PCOS and have lower face, anterior neck, and chest hair that are seeking hair removal as well. That is probably our second largest hair removal package. For combining certain treatments, we combine facial rejuvenation with microneedling. We also combine a lot of decongesting facials with Aerolase treatments. You get the lifting, tightening, and collagen stimulation, but also get the really deep work that the laser can do. With the laser, I’m actually getting better depth with my clients than with microneedling alone,” Doto elaborates.

“Chair time for me is really important because if I can do three procedures in one hour, rather than having them come back three or four times, it’s actually more advantageous for me because it’s saving me time. So, it’s more cost effective for me to have clients come in and have multiple treatments done. Purely from the business perspective, it makes more sense when you are able to package somebody up. For the client base that we have, we always allot for a little extra time just in case they want something extra.”
Doto goes on to say, “A lot of the women I work with are professionals or they are moms. Their time is limited. That time is money. For instance, a client for IV therapy might ask, “Can I bring in my sister during my appointment? She wants to get the laser too”. I have the ability to agree to that and double-book them, squeezing in as much as possible.”
It serves as an introduction for so many other treatments
Doto highlights, “It serves as a great platform and as an introduction for so many other treatments. It’s opened up a lot of opportunities for the other services that we provide.”
“For acne, we do a lot of decongesting facials alongside the Aerolase treatments. We see many women in their 20s and 30s that are struggling with adult acne. We also noticed an uptick in acne with what we believe is from mask usage. I treat all the nurses and doctors from the local hospital. They all come in with the same issues. They will comment, “I’ve been wearing the N95 for 14 hours a day. It’s wreaking havoc on my skin”. Wearing a mask is affecting everyone’s skin, but in similar ways, leading to breakouts and other skin issues,” Doto states.
“We always like to start with a good cleansing facial for those clients coming in with acne. Many of our patients struggle with cystic acne. We want to work on killing that from the inside out, so we always want to hit it with the laser. “For sun damage, we combine peel treatments with Aerolase. It’s a great combination treatment, especially for the lower half of the face. It provides clients with lifting and tightening in that area. We first do the hyperpigmentation protocol with Aerolase and then do a medium-grade peel. We always treat every client individually, so the exact number of laser treatments and peels can vary,” she mentions.
“Being a newer practice, you are always going to have an ebb and flow of patient influx. One week, we had a really great week and did over $12,000 in packages. Due to the pandemic, we did have some slow months when compared to the first quarter of this year. Those $5,000, $6,000, and $10,000 package inquiries are rolling in again. I’m booked up for consultations in the next few weeks. When I look at revenue generation, it is always that the laser has increased that revenue by 40%.”
