Le mélasme est largement connu comme un trouble de la pigmentation qui a un effet profond sur la qualité de vie des personnes qui en sont atteinte(1). Le mélasme est de plus en plus fréquent. Certains centres dermatologiques indiquent qu’il s’agit de l’affection la plus fréquente après l’acné(4), mais un grand pourcentage de cette population ne cherche pas à se faire soigner, en grande partie parce qu’elle ne connaît pas les options de traitement(5). Pour ceux qui cherchent un traitement, une approche collective familière pour traiter le mélasme (dans le cadre médical) a traditionnellement pris la forme d’hydroquinone ou d’autres composés topiques, d’exfoliations chimiques, de microdermabrasion ou de lasers à commutation-Q.(3).

S’appuyant sur ces options de traitement traditionnelles, Aerolase, avec l’expertise clinique de Cheryl Burgess, MD, dermatologue basée à Washington DC, a développé un protocole en deux étapes, « one-two punch » (coup double), pour traiter efficacement le mélasme sur tous les types de peau en une seule séance de traitement. Tout d’abord, la technologie du laser Nd:YAG 1064 nm à 650 microsecondes d’Aerolase offre une solution pour s’attaquer aux composants mélaniques et vasculaires dermiques plus profonds(6) du mélasme, tout en aidant à briser le pigment épidermique. L’énergie du laser est appliquée sur toute la zone du visage à des fluences allant jusqu’à 28 J/cm2. Ensuite, selon le type et l’état de la peau du patient, une exfoliation chimique légère à moyenne ou un composé d’hydroquinone est appliqué pour traiter la pigmentation épidermique restante.

« Nous avons eu beaucoup de succès dans l’élimination de la pigmentation dermique avec le Neo grâce à sa profondeur de pénétration et à la vitesse de l’impulsion », affirme la Dre Burgess. « Ensuite, nous superposons (généralement) cela avec une exfioliation chimique ou de l’hydroquinone pour générer un nouvel épiderme afin d’éliminer les préoccupations pigmentaires superficielles et si un mélange est nécessaire, nous pouvons utiliser un composé d’hydroquinone », poursuit-elle.
